Lakewood, N.J. - A 16-8 fourth quarter was the difference Sunday in the Adelphi University women's basketball team's 58-55 win over Georgian Court University in non-conference action at the Wellness Center.
Despite trailing 47-42 after three quarters, the Panthers (2-3) shot a scintillating 62.5 percent from the field and outrebounded the Lions (2-3) by an overwhelming 13-4 count in the final 10-minute period.
In fact, Adelphi fell behind 49-42 with nine minutes left in the game, until a 14-2 run in a five-minute span turned the tide and gave the Panthers a 56-51 lead with 4:12 to play.
Korina Guerra sparked the outburst with a three-pointer, while
Kaitlyn O'Connell sank a three of her own during the stretch that put the visitors ahead for good.
While Georgian Court had the final possession of regulation and needed a three to force overtime, the Lions put up an air ball from the wing as time expired.
The game featured eight lead changes and five tied scores. Neither squad led by more than single digits in the contest.
Emily Miccile broke out for her best shooting performance this year, pouring in a game-high 19 points on 8-of-15 from the field. She also grabbed eight rebounds in the effort.
Guerra totaled a season-high 13 points and eight rebounds, to go along with two steals. O'Connell contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 33 minutes off the bench.
