Philadelphia, PA - It may have come down to the final 60 seconds of action, but the Adelphi University men's basketball team pulled off a 70-65 win at Jefferson University on Tuesday evening.
With the help of
Adonis Williams's double-double and
Ronnie Silva's perfection at the free throw line, the Panthers (3-1) were able to secure the victory over the Rams and bounce back from Saturday's in-conference loss. Williams accounted for 20 points and 10 rebounds as Silva followed suit with 18 points including 50 percent shooting from three point range.Â
The Panthers got out to a slow start in the first half and eventually found themselves trailing by nine after eight minutes of action. Jefferson kept the momentum rolling and worked out to their largest lead of 10 by the time the clock hit 3:23. Silva drained a three-pointer just seconds later to spark an 8-0 run in favor of Adelphi, but even with a
Jake Hlywiak tre, the visitors were still down by two at the half.Â
The home team saw three starters reach double-figures and had Deondre Bourne come off the bench to contribute 18.Â
Adelphi capitalized on Ram turnovers in the second half, turning seven miscues into 12 points. A layup from Williams brought the score even at 48-all, however it wasn't until
Isaiah Salter dished the ball to
Andrew Delaney that the Brown and Gold took their first lead of the contest, with 2:09 left in regulation.Â
Fouls on both sides sent several players to the line, but down the stretch it was Williams's three-point play that gave the ultimate lead and Silva's two makes with seconds remaining to seal the deal.Â
The team will return to action on Monday, November 29 when they take on East Coast Conference member, the College of Staten Island. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.Â
