Garden City, N.Y. - In its first home and conference contest of the 2021-22 campaign, the Adelphi University women's basketball team defeated the College of Saint Rose, 66-53, in NE10 action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
It was the first head coaching victory for
Sade Jackson, who was named the 12th head coach in the program's history last May.
Despite a slow start by both sides, the Panthers (1-2, 1-0 NE10) eventually had another suffocating first quarter and led 21-6 after the opening period.
Adelphi buried four consecutive threes in the stretch and closed out the quarter on a 17-2 run.
The hosts heated up from deep again in the second quarter, knocking down four more treys, and carried a 38-23 advantage into the break.
In the first half alone, Adelphi shot a scintillating 8-of-16 from three, and held its opposition to only 33.3 percent (8-of-24) shooting from the field.
A pair of
Kaitlyn O'Connell three-pointers further expanded the Adelphi lead to a 21-point difference midway through the third quarter and the rout was on.
O'Connell led all players with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep.
Sydney Rosenoff and
Rebecca Lee poured in 11 points apiece.
Emily Miccile posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She nearly found a triple-double with her six assists.
The Panthers are next in action on Tuesday (Nov. 23), when they square off with neighboring rival Molloy College in Rockville Centre at 6 p.m.
