Kutztown, Pa. - On Wednesday, the Adelphi University women's basketball team came out on the short end of a 60-49 loss in a non-conference tilt at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
The Panthers (0-2) got out to another strong start in this one, backed by a 20-13 first quarter.
Adelphi closed out the period on an 11-0 run, which saw three consecutive threes from the combination of Korina Guerra, Rolanda Robinson and Jillian Licurgo.
A .111 shooting percentage in the ensuing quarter though, coupled with an 18-3 Kutztown run, gave the Golden Bears a 31-23 halftime lead.
Emily Miccile quickly cut the deficit to 31-25 out of the locker room, but the hosts built as much as a 16-point advantage in the third quarter.
Adelphi rallied in the fourth, on the strength of a game-high-tying 46.1 percent shooting performance from the field.
Sydney Rosenoff hit a three with 6:41 left to close the gap to a one-possession game at 45-42.
An ensuing three-point response by Ryley Derr gave Kutztown the separation it needed to put it away.
Miccile led the Adelphi offense with 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Emma Cuccurullo, Kaitlyn O'Connell and Licurgo all followed with seven points apiece.
The Panthers are next in action Saturday (Nov. 20), when they open NE10 play at home against The College of Saint Rose at 1:30 p.m.
