Waterbury, Conn. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University women's basketball team lost in its season opener, dropping a 57-46 decision to Post University at the Drubner Center.
Despite trailing 23-22 at the half, the Panthers (0-1) buried six third-quarter threes and clawed out to an 11-point cushion (40-29) with 2:21 left.
At one point, Adelphi squared up for three consecutive triples, including back-to-back trifectas by
Rolanda Robinson, who scored 12 points in her collegiate debut.
The final 1:57 of the quarter gave way to a game-tying response for Post (1-0), which carried into the fourth quarter and ultimately became a 27-4 outburst that put the contest out of reach.
The
Sade Jackson era got off on the right foot with a 13-3 run to open the game.
Rebecca Lee scored the team's first bucket of the year.
Kaitlyn O'Connell hit a pair of jumpers. Robinson drained a three-pointer in the spurt.
In the first quarter, the Panthers kept their opposition to below 20.0 percent shooting from the field at 1-for-9 (11.1 percent).
Post's Kyla Ramseur knocked down a three as time expired in the first quarter to spark an 18-5 run that sent the hosts to a 21-18 second-quarter lead. The Eagles maintained a slight 23-22 advantage at the break.
Lee led all scorers for Adelphi with 13 points. She made 5-of-6 attempts at the line.
Emily Miccile added six points, seven rebounds and two steals. O'Connell chipped in six points, two assists and two steals.
Emma Cuccurullo crashed the glass for a game-high-tying nine rebounds.
The Panthers are next in action following their season opener on Wednesday (Nov. 17) in Kutztown, Pa. at 5:30 p.m. at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in non-conference action.
