Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University men's soccer standouts
Paolo Marciano and
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca added to a laundry list of accomplishments on Thursday, when they were honored on the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
A year after being named the program's first CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American since 1993, Marciano makes his third appearance in as many years on the CoSIDA Academic All-District list.
Both student-athletes, who are in the midst of pursuing their master's degrees at Adelphi, will be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration and possess strikingly similar grade-point averages.
Marciano holds a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average, while Descalzo carries a 3.82.
Despite playing 13 of 17 games due to injury, Marciano still finished as the team's second-leading scorer in 2021. The left-footed forward had the second-most assists (8) of any player in the NE10 and tacked on seven goals to that total for 22 points.
Additionally, Marciano ranked among the Top 5 scorers in the conference and wrapped up his Adelphi career by breaking into the program's Top 10 career leaders for assists and points.
Meanwhile, Descalzo led the Panthers in scoring in his debut season, en route to earning NE10 All-Conference first-team status.
His play was almost unmatched in NE10 regular-season competition, where he collected a league-leading 12 goals and 26 points. In fact, Descalzo erupted for all 12 goals in a span of eight conference contests between Sept. 22 and Oct. 23.
While Descalzo headlined the NE10's scoring leaders for much of the year, he also sat atop the NCAA Division II leaderboard for several weeks with his six game-winners. Four of them came in successive matches during the team's eight-game winning streak.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District program annually recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility and possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater.
