Garden City, N.Y. - The two leading scorers for the Adelphi University women's soccer team combined for three second-half goals Monday in a 3-0 win over Georgian Court University in its 2021 regular-season finale at Motamed Field.
It was Adelphi's fourth shutout in as many games and wraps up the regular season for the Panthers at 7-5-3 overall.
Adelphi now awaits its opponent in the first round of the NE10 Tournament, which begins Sunday (Nov. 7). The Panthers will either have the No. 6 or No. 7 seed, based on how the final conference games play out Wednesday.
Although the two teams were even at the half, Adelphi had the upper hand with a commanding 12-1 shot differential in the first 45 minutes. A six-save exhibition by Georgian Court (6-10) keeper Alyssa Dias kept the hosts off the scoreboard.
The Panthers put on a display of their own in the second half.
Only 43 seconds in,
Carly Issing settled a
Maria D'Angelo pass inside the 18 and beat Dias with a shot to the upper-left 90 that broke the scoreless tie. She wasn't done.
Later in the half, Issing struck again, this time off a
Jacklyn Lada cross, that doubled Adelphi's lead in the 63rd minute.
D'Angelo put the finishing touches on the match with a tally in the 77th. It was her fourth goal in her last six contests.
Sarah Hofmeier made the start and collected a save that resulted in her fourth-consecutive clean sheet. She now has six shutouts this season.
Samantha Morales saw 6:33 of action and came up with two stops.
