Albany, N.Y. - Although the two teams played to a scoreless draw over a week ago, the No. 7 seed Adelphi University women's soccer team could not overcome an early first-half goal Sunday in a 1-0 loss to No. 2 seed The College of Saint Rose in the quarterfinals of the 2021 NE10 Championship at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
It was the fifth one-goal game between the Panthers (7-6-3) and Golden Knights (13-1-3) in their last eight meetings.
An 11th-minute tally from Saint Rose's Lauren Amerena stood up as the difference across the 90 minutes.
Despite the outcome, Adelphi controlled the possession battle and outshot Saint Rose by a slight 8-7 margin.
Once the hosts scored the initial goal, the Panthers limited their opposition to only two shots on goal for the remainder of the match.
Adelphi could not find the equalizer though.
The Panthers nearly had it in the second half, but a
Hailey Franco cross that would have led to a tap-in at the doorstep was steered away by Saint Rose keeper Taylor Gray in the 65th minute.
Reigning NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year Marika Laurendeau started the first half and made tough saves on
Carly Issing and
Kayla Mushorn.
Adelphi concludes its 2021 campaign at 7-6-3 overall and 6-5-2 in NE10 play. For more information, please continue to check back at AUPanthers.com.
