Volleyball Falters in Four at Assumption

Worcester, Mass. - With a chance to pick up a Northeast-10 Conference regular season game on the line, the Adelphi University volleyball unfortunately suffered a 3-1 setback on Saturday to Assumption University inside Laska Gymnasium.

Despite another team-leading effort from Delaney Kiendra - who finished with 13 kills - the Panther attack came up short in the NE10 matchup, committing 26 errors with a .112 team hitting percentage through four sets. Jamie Yonker and Kambel Fiser once again led in digs and assists with 16 and 20, respectively.

The Panthers (12-6, 2-2 NE10) jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, however Assumption rattled off a 10-2 run to take their first lead. With Jamaya Harris at the serving line, they managed to tie ut back up at 13-all, but timely hitting for he home team allowed them to pull ahead and maintain the advantage en route to a 25-20 victory.

Adelphi led by eight points right out of the gate in set number two, but it was all Greyhounds down the stretch as they took 10 of the final 11 points (after being down 22-15) to move ahead to 2-0 in the match.

Lilyen McCarthy sparked a run in the third that eventually helped Adelphi steal a set from the hosts, as Assumption committed four attack errors, resulting in a 25-22 loss.

The Greyhounds turned their energy around and quickly jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the fourth and final frame, never relinquishing the lead as Adelphi got as close as two. Noelle Alberda and Fiser recorded kills late in the contest, but could not manage to string anything together from an offensive standpoint.

Adelphi continues its road swing with a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, October 13 in non-conference action at Holy Family University.
