Volleyball Rallies in Extras to Steal Non-Conference Win at Holy Family

Philadelphia, PA - With double-digit kill performances from four different players, the Adelphi University volleyball team used extra sets on Wednesday evening to earn a non-conference victory against Holy Family University.

The Tigers (13-8, 8-0 CACC) were riding a 10-game win streak headed into the regional battle, having lost just two contests prior to meeting up with the Panthers (13-6, 2-2 NE10). Among the four players for the visitors who reached double-figures, were true first years Anna Oden and Delaney Kiendra, who accounted for 17 and 15, respectively.

Kambel Fiser smashed her single game assist mark, completing the five-set victory with 60 while also adding 16 digs and seven kills. Her new career-best falls one shy of the Adelphi single game assist record, which is currently held by Brianne MacArthur from 2000. Jamie Yonker also reached a new season and career-high with 38 digs, which is just two behind Katarina Warburton's program-best single game mark of 40.

After a tightly contested opening set which Adelphi won 25-23, the home team used extra points in the second to collect a 27-25 win to even the match. The Panthers used a .424 team hitting percentage in the third frame to once more take the lead in the match, but once again, Holy Family pushed the fourth to extra points to win 29-27.

A kill from Katie Schloss opened the fifth set, and a later block from Lilyen McCarthy capped a 3-0 early run. Back-to-back kills for the Panthers forced a Tiger timeout, but three consecutive kills from Oden managed to keep the hosts at bay. A 4-0 run for Adelphi put them in the drivers seat with match point, but the home team did not go down without a fight. At 14-7, Holy Family rattled off three unanswered points to cause Head Coach Danielle MacKnight to call a timeout of her own.

After a solid rally, Yonker set up Kiendra who laid in the final kill of the contest to snap the Tigers' 10-game win streak and come home with the regional road victory.

Adelphi returns to their home court on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they welcome their alumni back to campus for Spirit Weekend as they take on the College of Saint Rose at 1:00 p.m.
