West Haven, Conn. -
Maria D'Angelo,
Carly Issing and
Hailey Franco all got on the board Tuesday afternoon in the Adelphi University women's soccer team's 3-0 win at University of New Haven in NE10 action at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
The match was the start of a four-game road trip for the Panthers, who improved to 4-3 in conference play and won their third decision in as many games.
Adelphi (4-3-1) has also held its opposition without a goal over the last 215:37, as a result of posting their second-consecutive clean sheet.
The Panthers dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Chargers (4-6, 1-6 NE10) by an overwhelming 17-5 count. Twelve of their 17 shots on the day were on frame.
Adelphi peppered UNH goalkeeper Paige Davis early and often with shots and finally broke through in the 31st minute.
D'Angelo elevated from inside the area for a header that bounced inside the right post for the game's opening goal.
Ninety seconds after coming on in the second half, Issing struck from the top of the 18-yard box off a perfect Franco diagonal, extending the visitors' lead to 2-0.
Franco then got in on the scoring in the 75th minute, when she beat a defender off the dribble and placed a touch inside the right corner to put the game out of reach.
In goal,
Sarah Hofmeier made two saves and improved her goals-against average to 0.99. Davis stopped eight shots for New Haven.
The four-game road trip for the Panthers continues Saturday (Oct. 9) at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. at 11 a.m.
