Volleyball Adds to Win Column With 3-0 Sweep of Pace

Pleasantville, N.Y. - Coming off of two consecutive losses, the Adelphi University volleyball team earned a win Tuesday evening when they visited Pace University for a Northeast-10 Conference contest inside the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Collectively, the Panthers (12-5, 2-1 NE10) hit .308 as a team through three sets, led by Delaney Kiendra and Noelle Alberda, who chipped in 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Kambel Fiser posted a team-leading 23 assists, followed by Brenna Valsted who notched 12 and Jamie Yonker who finished with seven. Yonker was also responsible for 15 digs, to lead all players.

Adelphi came from behind in the early going of the opening set, using a 6-1 run to lead by three. After a kill from Samantha Collins to make it 21-16, the Setters (1-9, 0-4 NE10) called a timeout, and as a result, won the next three points to cut their deficit to two. Fortunately for the Brown and Gold, Samantha Meehan sparked a 4-1 run to close out the set and put the visitors in the lead.

A tightly contested set, the Panthers did not find a comfortable lead until a kill and service ace from Alberda capped a 4-0 run for the visiting team. Trailing by five, the home team manged to come within three, but Adelphi played through extra points on set point to secure the win with a Kiendra kill. In this set, Adelphi posted their best hitting percentage of the night at .394, tallying 17 kills and just four errors.

Pace was forced to call an early timeout in the eventual final set, as the Panthers opened the set with an 8-2 stretch. The hosts trailed for much of the frame, but a four-point stretch in their favor brought them within one at 18-17, but Alberda and a Pace miscue kept the home team at bay. Once again Adelphi had set point but played a couple of extra points until Anna Oden closed the door with her seventh kill of the evening to secure the victory.

Adelphi continues their road swing with a noon contest at Assumption College on Saturday, Oct. 9.
