Catalano Notches Game Winner to Push Panthers Past No. 8 Saint Anselm

Garden City, N.Y. - Graduate forward Kelsey Catalano scored the game-winning goal for the Adelphi University field hockey team to take down the No. 8 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm Hawks on Monday.

With the game knotted at one-all in the 58th minute, Catalano followed up her own deflection to punch in the deciding tally for the home team.

Freshman Amanda Lee was credited with the equalizer in the opening quarter that held the two teams tied until Catalano's game-winner.

Despite being down 1-0 after the fifth minute, the Panthers (4-4, 2-3) did not let up. The Brown and Gold pressed on Saint Anselm's goalie Mackenzie McConnell, forcing her to make 14 saves on the game - the most any Hawk has had to make since Nov. 4, 2014.

Stepping up big for the Panthers in the second half was graduate defender Jackie Brown who stood in the cage for the first time in her Adelphi career. Brown faced three quick shots at the start of the third quarter and stopped all three to keep the Hawks off the board. The graduate student ultimately claimed her first-ever win as a goalkeeper, helping her team claim its first win in three games.

Adelphi put forth an all-around team effort to shutout out the No. 8 team in the second half.

The Panthers will travel to American International College on Wednesday, to face the Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. on their turf.
