Garden City, N.Y. - Despite a brilliant performance in goal from
Daniel De La Heras, the Adelphi University men's soccer team succumbed 1-0 to No. 5 Franklin Pierce University in NE10 action on Senior Day.
In a game where Franklin Pierce led in both possession and shots, De La Heras stood tall to keep the Panthers (9-5-1, 8-3 NE10) in it.
Especially in the second half, when De La Heras made four saves, including a diving right-handed stop in the 63rd minute.
In the 55th minute, Franklin Pierce (15-1, 10-1 NE10) broke the stalemate.
While maintaining possession in the attacking half, Pedro Juan Vicente played a through pass for Alan Kehoe, who slipped the eventual game-winner underneath De La Heras.
With
Paolo Marciano out of the lineup for a second-straight game, Adelphi only managed six shots in the 90 minutes.
The fifth shot nearly tied it though. With 10:45 left, a right-footed shot off the foot of
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca touched the left post for the hosts' best opportunity of the match.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday (Nov. 3) in Albany with a 4 p.m. kickoff at The College of Saint Rose.
