Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Nailbiter at No. 23 AIC

Springfield, Mass. - An eight-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night for the Adelphi University men's soccer team in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 23 American International College in a crucial NE10 showdown at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

A 65th-minute goal for the Yellow Jackets (12-1-1, 9-1 NE10) was the deciding factor in the match.

Even despite outshooting AIC 22-9 and holding the hosts to five shots on goal, Salim Yussif tapped in a loose ball off a corner with 25:38 left that proved to be the game-winner.

Adelphi (9-4-1, 8-2 NE10) had its opportunities. Nine of its 22 total attempts were on target.

Franco Paz nearly had the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute, but his putback on the goal line was swept out of trouble by the AIC defense.

Paz was also thwarted by AIC keeper Lucas Morales-Fernandez late in the second half on a touch that would have tied the score.\

Morales-Fernandez ultimately stopped all nine shots he faced for the Yellow Jackets. Daniel De La Heras was saddled with his first loss in a four-save outing.

The loss has the Panthers currently holding down the No. 3 spot in the NE10 standings. Adelphi will next face No. 5 Franklin Pierce University on Saturday (Oct. 30) in an 11 a.m. matinee at Motamed Field. A pre-game Senior Day ceremony will be held prior to kickoff.
