Rindge, N.H. - On the doorstep of winning its first conference title since 2017, the No. 4 seed Adelphi University women's tennis team fell 4-1 at third-seeded Franklin Pierce University Sunday in the NE10 Championship.
The Ravens (11-2) ultimately repeated as NE10 Tournament champions for the second year in a row.
Adelphi (10-4) nearly pulled off the improbable run. The title was well in sight after the visitors claimed the doubles point;.
It came down to a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, where
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici prevailed in impressive fashion, 7-1.
Quagliardi was named the recipient of the NE10 Elite 24 Award, after possessing the highest cumulative grade-point average of any student-athlete at the finals site. She boasts an exceptional 3.987 GPA as a Finance major.
The Panthers could not seem to figure out the Ravens in singles.
Louisa Junghanns, Quagliardi, Federici and
Amanda Franstedt all lost to their respective opponents in straight sets.
Quagliardi and Franstedt were selected to the NE10 All-Championship Team.
Adelphi will pick back up with matches in the spring, but concludes the fall at 10-4 overall.
