Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday night, the Adelphi University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 result over Stonehill College in NE10 action under the lights of Motamed Field.
Three different players lit up the scoreboard for the Panthers (5-5-2, 5-5-1 NE10), who improved to 4-2-1 at home.
While Stonehill (6-8-1, 3-6-1 NE10) mostly made soft contact on its opportunities in the first half, Adelphi generated several exemplary chances.
Initially, the Panthers were unlucky.
Jacklyn Lada was robbed of the game's opening goal by the crossbar six minutes in.
Adelphi finally made it count in the 29th minute. After beating two defenders,
Alexis Hellman cranked a left-footed shot underneath the crossbar to give the Brown and Gold a 1-0 advantage and earn her first collegiate goal.
That lead stood up at the break.
Sarah Hofmeier swallowed up all three Stonehill shots she faced in the first 45 minutes. Hofmeier would get her third clean sheet of the season.
In the second half, the Panthers limited the Skyhawks to only three shots and added to their lead in the process.
Carly Issing doublled her team's lead in the 59th minute, when -- from a sharp angle -- she flicked a shot towards the far corner that sailed over the reach of Stonehill starting keeper Hanna Copley. It was Issing's team-leading fifth goal of 2021.
Nearly nine minutes later,
Ashley Borriello cashed in her second goal of the year, after putting back a
Maria D'Angelo rebound that struck the right post and caromed to Borriello's feet.
A game in which the possession gap slightly favored Adelphi, the Panthers outshot the Skyhawks by an overwhelming 18-7 count.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad next travel up to Albany on Tuesday (Oct. 26) for a 6 p.m. date with No. 13 The College of Saint Rose.
