Dominant First Half Highlights Men's Soccer's 5-0 Rout of Saint Anselm

Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's soccer team extended its winning streak to eight consecutive games with a 5-0 blanking of Saint Anselm College in NE10 action at Motamed Field.

The Adelphi offense went to work in the first half, erupting for four goals on nine shots on target. It was the team's most goals in a half since Oct. 23, 2019.

Adelphi (9-3-1, 8-1 NE10) only needed 4:13 to break open the scoring. Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca added to his conference-leading goal total with a strike into the left side that evaded the Saint Anselm keeper.

He also notched his 13th and 14th goals on the day for his first collegiate hat trick.

Descalzo cleaned up his own rebound in the 34th minute for the brace and finished into the top-left 90 early in the second half to cement his hat trick.

Just 10 minutes after Descalzo's first tally, Filippo Peri cleaned up a rebound that made it a 2-0 game. Franco Paz picked up his first goal in an Adelphi uniform with a 37th-minute tally.

The Panthers dominated possession in the first half, posting a 60-40 split differential. Daniel De La Heras improved to 8-0 in goal and made three saves in 45 minutes of work.

Head Coach Gary Book and his Adelphi squad are in action next on Wednesday (Oct. 27), when they face NE10 rival American International College in a showdown for sole possession of second place in the NE10 standings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
