New Haven, Conn. - The No. 9 Adelphi University field hockey team stunned Southern Connecticut on Friday evening, 10-0.
Adelphi (10-4, 8-3) boasted their fourth shutout and second double-digit scoring game of the season. The Brown and Gold landed two in the back of the net in the first seven minutes of the contest with one coming off the stick of senior
Kaylee Deleva who collected two additional goals on the match. The senior now leads the Northeast-10 with 17 goals on the season.
Sophomore
Emily Reichenbach also had a multi-goal game for Adelphi with her pair of tallies.
The Panthers exploded for five goals in the remaining 15 minutes, with the scoring shared between five players. Senior
Kelsie Law and freshman
Faith Dillon contributed with their first career goals.
The Owls (2-12, 2-9) registered just two shots on goal, both coming in the second half of play. Southern Connecticut's goalkeeper Abigail Koonankeil was tested with 25 shots, recording 15 saves.
Amanda Montiel secured her second consecutive shutout in the cage for Adelphi with two saves.
The Brown and Gold will return to home to Garden City tomorrow to host Franklin Pierce at 3 p.m. The seniors will be honored prior to the start of the contest.
