Championship Bound! Women's Tennis Stuns Le Moyne in NE10 Semis, 4-0

Syracuse, N.Y. - The No. 4 seed Adelphi University women's tennis team is headed to its first NE10 Championship final appearance since 2017, after Friday's 4-0 upset of top-seeded Le Moyne College in the semifinals of the NE10 Tournament at the Skytop Tennis Courts on the Syracuse University campus.

The last time Adelphi was in the NE10 Tournament final, the Panthers (10-3) put a cap on a three-peat with a 5-4 victory over Stonehill. Current head coach Rebecca Fakas and assistant coach Karen Serina were upperclassmen and doubles partners on the team.

"I'm proud of the team's performance today against a tough Le Moyne side. We came out very strong and were ready to fight this from the first ball," Fakas said. "Now, we look to elevate our level and prepare for Sunday. I'm excited for it. We're not done yet."

This Sunday, Adelphi will meet No. 3 seed Franklin Pierce for the NE10 Championship in Rindge, N.H. The Panthers and Ravens, who knocked off No. 2 seed SNHU by a 4-0 decision, met only ten short days ago for their regular-season showdown, with Pierce prevailing, 5-2.

Although Adelphi fell into a hole early in doubles, the top two flights pulled through to snatch the doubles point from potential defeat.

Both pairs of Barbie Quagliardi and Caterina Federici (No. 1) and Amanda Franstedt and Louisa Junghanns (No. 2) won by identical 6-2 results.

Impressively, Junghanns, Federici and Carolina Chaves all took their singles matches in short order to secure Adelphi's spot in Sunday's final. Only a combined seven games were lost by the Panthers between the three matches.

Junghanns took down NE10 Rookie of the Year Isabella Barona at the top flight, 6-1, 6-0. Federici played to a very favorable 6-1, 6-2 result in third singles. Chaves won by a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 scoreline at the No. 6 position.

The loss was Le Moyne's first this season to any conference opponent in the regular season or postseason.
