Syracuse, N.Y. - For the second-straight weekend, the Adelphi University women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 5-2 loss to a conference opponent on the road, this time falling at Le Moyne College Saturday at Nottingham High School.
While the Panthers (4-2, 3-2 NE10) won the doubles point, Adelphi was mostly unable to overcome Le Moyne (7-0, 5-0 NE10) in singles competition.
Four of the six singles matches went to a third set, in which the Dolphins broke serve and prevailed comfortably in each.
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici did manage to take the first set off their respective opponents, while
Julia Kielan and
Carolina Chaves forced the decisive set with a second-set victory.
Louisa Junghanns was Adelphi's lone winner in singles on the day, following a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set decision at the No. 1 flight.
She also teamed up with
Amanda Franstedt for a 6-4 win in second doubles. Quagliardi and Federici triumphed by an identical score in top doubles.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers are back at it tomorrow (Oct. 3), when they unveil their newly-renovated courts at home with a 2 p.m. match against Assumption University.
