Colchester, Vt. - A pair of braces for
Paolo Marciano and
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca highlighted a 5-1 win for the Adelphi University men's soccer team Saturday afternoon at Saint Michael's College in Colchester.
The Panthers (5-3-1), who won their fourth straight and improved to 4-1 in NE10 play, scored on two of their four shots on target in the first 45 minutes of play.
Marciano's presence was apparent from the onset of the match and the senior forward struck for the game's first goal 12:02 into the contest.
A through ball from
Francisco Greco led to a break, in which Marciano finished into the left-side netting. The tally was Marciano's fifth of the season and his third in the last four games.
In a similar instance in the 31st minute,
Matthew Lynch found Descalzo with a through ball and Adelphi's leading scorer added to his impeccable season total with a touch to the right.
Descalzo wasn't done.
Nearly two minutes into the second half, Descalzo further padded the Adelphi lead. Now with six goals in his last four contests, Descalzo put home a tap-in, after Saint Michael's keeper Ian Boudreau had difficulty cutting off the
Tommy Speed cross.
Marciano accompanied his teammate with a two-goal game, when he picked up his brace in the 80th minute that put it away for good.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers will now return to Motamed Field and start a two-game homestand Wednesday (Oct. 6) against reigning NE10 Tournament champion Assumption University at 7:30 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
