Women's Soccer Suffers 4-1 Loss at Franklin Pierce

Rindge, N.H. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team capped its longest road trip in six years with a 4-1 loss at the hands of Franklin Pierce University in NE10 action at Sodexo Field.

The Panthers (4-4-2, 4-4-1 NE10) got out to a strong start, registering the first three shots of the game and ultimately converting on that third attempt 5:17 into the match.

Off a re-start from midfield, Marisa Dennis laced a free kick toward Jacklyn Lada, who flicked a header onto a streaking Maria D'Angelo for the finish.

The Ravens (7-3-2, 4-3-2 NE10) then turned up the offensive intensity and outshot Adelphi 8-3 over the last 33:58 of the half, leading to a 2-1 advantage for the hosts at the break.

With 3:23 to go before halftime, FPU's Aino Martikainen netted the go-ahead goal on a free kick from the top of the 18. The Ravens never looked back.

The Panthers came out of the locker room in search of a strike that would level the score. Gabby Calidonio kept three shots out of net early in the second half, before Makenzie Shean padded the Pierce lead in the 63rd minute.

Although both teams finished with 13 shots apiece, Franklin Pierce had 12 shots on target to Adelphi's six.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers play four of their last five at home and will next meet Pace University on Wednesday (Oct. 20) at Motamed Field at 7 p.m.
