Daytona Beach, Fla. - The offense sputtered Wednesday night for the Adelphi University softball team, which suffered a pair of losses to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in non-conference action at ERAU Softball Stadium in Daytona Beach.
The Panthers (2-4) could only muster a combined five hits off of Eagles' (12-5) pitching between the two contests.
Game 1: Adelphi 0, Embry-Riddle 11 - F/5
In the opener, Adelphi struggled to figure out Embry-Riddle senior pitcher Jayla Jackson, who threw four shutout innings of two-hit ball. She faced two over the minimum.
The Eagles got to
Ally Muller though and tagged her for two runs in the first, three in the third and six more in the fourth.
Hannah Pineda and
Abbey Fortin accounted for the only hits for the Panthers in the contest.
Megan Sneeden earned a walk in the fifth.
Game 2: Adelphi 1, Embry-Riddle 4
Embry-Riddle again jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, plating all of its runs over the first three innings.
The Panthers finally broke the shutout streak in the sixth, when
Laurén Shambo got to the Eagles' bullpen with a one-out pinch-hit solo homer to left.
That proved, however, to be Adelphi's only run of the game. Embry-Riddle junior reliever Kelsi Collins retired five of the last six to face her.
In the circle, Embry-RIddle starter Lisa Hop threw five innings of one-hit shutout ball.
Nicole Mengel went six innings for the Panthers and struck out four.
Head Coach
Carla Campagna and her Adelphi squad will now have a day off before resuming play at the PFX Spring Games on Friday (Mar. 6), with contests against Grand Valley State University and Truman State University at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively.
