Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#9 Men's Lacrosse Topped by #4 Tampa

Baltimore, Md - Coming off a narrow loss to open their season, Adelphi men's lacrosse dropped a tough 13-6 decision to the University of Tampa Wednesday afternoon, at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.

James Hall led the Panthers (0-2) offense in the loss, scoring a hat trick on six shots on goal. He also added an assist and scooped up two ground balls. Angelo Caiazzo and Nicolas Racalbuto added two and one goal, respectively, combining for two assists and four ground balls.

It was an all-Tampa (5-0) affair in the early going, as they scored on each of their first four possessions before the Panthers managed an attempt in their offensive zone. Racalbuto netted the first tally of the game for Adelphi, but the home team still managed to trail by five after the first quarter.

The second quarter was quiet on the offensive side, as each team only scored once, but the Brown and Gold held a 10-8 advantage in shots for the frame. Tampa's goalkeeper Alexander Starr collected five of his nine saves in the second quarter, as Adelphi's Ryan Erler took over goalkeeping duties to grab three of his nine for the contest before halftime.

At the break, the Panthers trailed by five and after scoring two, still trailed by as many as the Spartans also added two more in the third quarter.

Heading into the final 15 minutes of action, Tampa's leading scorers, in Bryan Wright and Owen Miller, combined to score three before Hall found the back of the net again for Adelphi with 5:24 left on the clock. Jack Wood scored the Spartans final goal of the afternoon, but late taunting call awarded possession to the home team on the scoreboard.  That occurrence led to Hall notching a hat trick in the loss as he drove toward the cage to score, but it was not enough as the Spartans would claim their third victory over a ranked team this season.

Adelphi returns north and will trip to American International College on Saturday, March 7 for a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Yellow Jackets to open up Northeast-10 Conference play.
