Baseball Records Sunday Sweep of Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - Following a 20-17 slugfest the day before, the Adelphi University baseball team recorded a sweep of Franklin Pierce University on Sunday, in its first doubleheader of the season at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

At the plate, Kyle Olson was a key asset to the Panthers' (2-1) success, going 3-for-5 on the day. Matt Alifano kicked off his first opening weekend with a 2-for-5 performance and four runs scored.  Tim Feliz logged three RBIs in the sweep.

Game 1: Adelphi 10, Franklin Pierce 1
In his season debut, Josh Rovner recorded seven shutout innings with four strikeouts.

Adelphi broke the scoreless tie in the third, when Alifano lined a two-RBI double to left to stake the Panthers to a 2-0 lead.

An inning later, with the Panthers up 3-0, the Brown and Gold drove in four more runs to break it open. It was Feliz and Tyler Becker, who both provided two-run doubles to account for the scoring.

Adelphi would tack on another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cap the scoring. Five different players drove in a run for the hosts in the effort.

Game 2: Adelphi 6, Franklin Pierce 4
Tied 3-3 in the fifth, the Panthers loaded the bases with two out. That set the stage for a crucial error by Franklin Pierce left-fielder Charles Lebron, who misplayed a fly ball by Warick that resulted in three costly runs.

The Ravens got a run back in the sixth, but Tom Ambrosino shut the door over the final 2.2 innings. He secured his first win of the season, scattering just two hits and one run with four strikeouts.

Much like the first game, Adelphi broke through first in the contest. In the fourth inning, Olson doubled down the left-field line to score Lawrence Cicileo for the game's first run and Dillon Kim followed with a two-RBI single, extending the lead to 3-0.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 4), when it takes on Bloomfield College in a non-conference match-up at William J. Bonomo Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
