Edringer's Career Day Pushes No. 13 Women's Basketball Past Bentley, 85-70

Waltham, Mass. - In a critical showdown between the league's divisional leaders, the No. 13 Adelphi University women's basketball team defeated Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University, 85-70, on Saturday at the Dana Center in Waltham.

Leonie Edringer paved the way for the Panthers (20-2, 11-2 NE10) in the effort, scoring a career-high 31 points on 14-of-17 shooting from the field. Her 14 field goals were also a career-best.

Edringer was one of five players for Adelphi in double figures. Katie Murphy collected 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals. Phyness Baldwin scored a season-high 12 points off the bench. Emily Miccile finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Fallyn Stephens shot 4-of-7 from the floor, en route to a 10-point day.

The Brown and Gold shot an astounding 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the field, 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range and 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the foul line in the contest.

Bentley (15-6, 10-3 NE10) held a slight 9-8 lead midway through the first quarter, but that was the last time the Falcons led in the game.

Edringer hit a go-ahead jumper with 5:19 left in the opening period and Adelphi never looked back. The Panthers eventually grew their lead to double digits in the second quarter and took a 50-39 advantage into halftime. A three-pointer by Murphy to open the third quarter spread the difference to 14 points at 53-39.

Bentley managed to close the gap to 70-63 early in the fourth, but a key 6-0 response by Adelphi shut the door on a comeback. The Panthers also held the Falcons without a field goal over the final 3:26 to seal a fourth-consecutive win.

Head Coach Missy Traversi and her Adelphi squad continue their three-game road trip Wednesday (Feb. 5), when they travel to Springfield, Mass. for a 5:30 p.m. opening tip at NE10 rival American International College.
