Big Third Quarter Powers No. 12 Women's Basketball Past SCSU, 77-54

New Haven, Conn. - Leading 32-30 at the half, the No. 12 Adelphi University women's basketball team more than doubled up Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University in the third quarter, en route to a 77-54 win Wednesday night at Moore Field House in New Haven.

The Panthers, who improved to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in NE10 play, outscored the Owls (7-7, 1-5 NE10) by an overwhelming 29-13 margin in the third quarter to bring a comfortable 61-43 lead into the final 15-minute period. Adelphi shot an outstanding 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field in the quarter, including a 57.1 percent (4-of-7) mark from deep.

The Brown and Gold started the third quarter on a blistering 22-7 run to increase their lead to 52-37 with 4:03 to go. Jess Camarda and Leonie Edringer combined for all of Adelphi's scoring output in the burst. Camarda buried three triples, as part of her game- and season-high 25-point night.

The gap expanded to as many as 20 points in the quarter, on a pair of Camarda free throws with 1:31 left.

Southern Connecticut was subsequently unable to crack into Adelphi's double-digit lead, sealing the Panthers' 15th consecutive win to open the season.

In addition to her 25 points, Camarda grabbed nine rebounds. Edringer posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Fallyn Stephens scored 10 points off the bench. Katie Murphy had nine points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Emily Miccile chipped in seven points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Emma Cuccurullo pulled down eight rebounds.

Head Coach Missy Traversi and her Adelphi squad now come home to face NE10 foe Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday (Jan. 11) at 1:30 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y.
