Garden City, N.Y. - It took two overtimes to decide it, but the No. 12 Adelphi University women's basketball team kept its winning streak intact with a 92-90 double-overtime win against Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
It was the first double-overtime game since 2015-16 for the Panthers, who stretched their record to 16-0 overall and 7-0 in NE10 play.
In the second overtime, Adelphi trailed 90-89 with less than a minute to go. However,
Leonie Edringer drove to the basket for a go-ahead lay-up with 20 seconds remaining.
With a chance to win the game, SNHUÂ (9-6, 3-5 NE10) put the ball in the hands of Adriana Timberlake, who missed short on her lay-up try with five seconds left.
The Penmen also had an opportunity to hit a buzzer-beater to win it in the first overtime, but Jenna Roche's three-point attempt missed the mark.
Edringer also came up big at the end of the first overtime, hitting the game-tying lay-up at the six-second mark to even the score at 84-all.
In the first half, the Panthers trailed 14-13 late in the first quarter, until an 18-4 outburst gave Adelphi a 31-18 lead with eight minutes left before the half.
Fallyn Stephens nailed a three to ignite the run and Edringer capped it off with a lay-up.
Though SNHU used a 14-0 response to re-gain the lead at 32-31, Adelphi ended the second quarter on a 12-2 spurt to bring a 43-34 advantage into the locker room.
Edringer finished with a game- and career-high 29 points and 17 rebounds. She shot 13-of-23 from the field and added four blocks.
Katie Murphy collected 19 points and 10 assists for her first-ever double-double.
Emily Miccile recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Jess Camarda had 11 points, while Stephens contributed nine points and four assists.
