Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Silva's Heroics Earns Men's Basketball 94-91 Overtime Victory

Garden City, NY – It took an extra five minutes past regulation before the men's basketball team were able to come away with a 94-91 victory over Northeast-10 foe New Haven Saturday evening, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

The Brown and Gold had a three-headed offensive scoring machine in Ronnie Silva, Jared Rivers and Spencer Foley who combined for 80 of their team's 94 points. Silva led the way with 34 points on 13-26 shooting from the field while also grabbing nine boards. Foley also shot 50 percent from the floor after going 7-14 with five triples for a career high 21 points while Rivers chipped in with 25 points for a career high. The trio accounted for 15 of Adelphi's 17 three pointers.

It was a fairly even first half with both teams shooting well and knocking down seven triples each. New Haven built their largest lead, 33-23 with just over six minutes left to play in the opening act. The Brown and Gold cut into the deficit right before the half after Silva accounted for 10 of his team's final 12 points to make it a 42-35 affair at the midway point.

Chris Coalmon notched two of his five points at the 15:05 mark to bring them even with their counterparts at 50 all. The deuce was also part of an 11-0 Panther run, which, when it ended, gave them a six point advantage.

However, New Haven relied on the offensive prowess of Derrick Rowland who scored 17 of his 32 points, in the second half to give his team the late five point lead with 45 seconds left in regulation. Austin Beech knocked down his two free throw attempts to inch closer. On the Panther's final two possessions, Silva drilled two pivotal three pointers which ultimately would send the game into overtime.

Silva netted two jumpers midway through the overtime frame that gave Adelphi a three-point cushion, however the Chargers converted a three-point play to knot the game at 89-all with 1:51 left on the clock. After the teams traded missed baskets, Silva found Rivers on the perimeter for the go-ahead tre at the 1:20 mark. New Haven managed another jumper to come within one of the home team, but Silva knocked down two free throws to put the stands on their feet for the remaining five seconds, marking the Panthers' second win of 2020.

The men's team will trip to Southern Connecticut on Wednesday, January 8 for an NE10 meeting before returning to their home court on Saturday, Jan. 11.
