Gordon Purdie and the Adelphi University men's lacrosse program have announced the 14-game schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. The Panthers' slate features 10 Northeast-10 conference matchups and six home games.
As per usual, Adelphi's schedule is filled with nationally competitive opponents, starting off the season against Lenoir-Rhyne University, ranked no. 19 by United States Lacrosse Magazine in the 2020 Division II Preseason Top-20. Following two scrimmages in February, the Panthers officially start their season on March 1, heading to Hickory, N.C. to face off against the Bears.
The road trip continues for the next four competitions, starting with a neutral site game against University of Tampa on Homewood Field in Baltimore on March 4. The squad then opens conference play against American Int'l on March 7, followed by Southern New Hampshire University on March 14. Adelphi closes out its five game away stretch against local rival, Molloy, on March 18 in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
The Brown and Gold's home opener is set for March 21 under the lights on Motamed Field, against Saint Anselm, who ended their last season ranked no. 20 in the nation. The Panthers are then set for seven straight conference matchups, hosting Saint Rose (March 24), Saint Michael's College (April 4), and Franklin Pierce (April 11).
In between its home games, Adelphi will face Pace University on the road on April 1. The Setters are ranked no. 14 in the Nike/USL DII Preseason Top 20 and closed out last season ranked 13th in the country, following a loss to the Panthers in the NE10 tournament semifinals.
In its final road game of the regular season Adelphi heads to Syracuse for a rematch of last year's NE10 Championship game, against Le Moyne, who sits at third in the preseason poll, one spot behind the Panthers.
Following its final non-conference game of the season against no. 12 Mercy at home on April 15, Adelphi will conclude the season with an NE10 matchup on Motamed Field against Bentley University at 1:00 p.m. on April 17.
Returning four All-Americans with a 16-3 overall record last season, the Panthers are eyeing yet another postseason run. The NE10 tournament is slated to begin on April 25, hosted by the higher seeds.
