No. 20 Women's Basketball Pulls Away From Franklin Pierce, 70-47

Rindge, N.H. - Behind a 12-point third quarter from Julia Strachan, the No. 20 Adelphi University women's basketball team pulled away for a 70-47 win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at the Fieldhouse in Rindge.

Leading 36-33 nearly midway through the third quarter, the Panthers (18-2, 9-2 NE10) ended the period on a 15-4 run to open up a 51-37 advantage with 10 minutes left to play.

Strachan accounted for 12 of the visitors' 15 points, by way of four three-point makes. Fallyn Stephens added a three-pointer, as well. For the quarter, the Panthers outscored the Ravens (8-10, 2-9 NE10) by a 17-9 count.

Adelphi kept its foot to the gas pedal in the final period. The Brown and Gold shot a game-high 46.1 percent (6-of-13) from the field in the fourth quarter and built its lead to as many as 25 points (69-44) with 2:46 left to shut the door on the hosts.

In the first half, the Panthers led by a slight 23-22 margin, until an 11-4 spurt in the final minutes made it a 34-26 game. Adelphi eventually went into the break with a six-point cushion at 34-28.

Strachan scored a game-best 15 points in the win. Leonie Edringer collected 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Katie Murphy finished a rebound shy of a double-double, totaling 10 points and nine rebounds. She also added six assists and three steals. Stephens chipped in nine points, while Emily Miccile and Jess Camarda poured in eight points apiece. Miccile pulled down six rebounds, as well.

Head Coach Missy Traversi and the Panthers return to action Wednesday (Jan. 29), when they welcome in NE10 opponent Saint Michael's College for a 5:30 p.m. opening tip at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y.
