Garden City, N.Y. - The No. 20 Adelphi University women's basketball team got back on track in convincing fashion Wednesday night, defeating Assumption College, 80-57, in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
Assumption (9-9, 3-7 NE10) led 5-2 from the onset of the game, but those were the only points the Greyhounds would get for the rest of the quarter.
Adelphi (17-2, 8-2 NE10) proceeded to go on a 25-0 run, which gave the hosts a commanding 27-5 lead, and kept the visitors off the scoreboard for the final 8:46 of the period.
A
Fallyn Stephens three from the corner ignited the outburst.
Jess Camarda followed with a three-pointer of her own to put the Panthers in front. As a team, Adelphi shot a scintillating 52.6 percent (10-of-14) from the field in the first quarter.
Behind a 50.0 percent shooting clip in the second quarter, the Greyhounds started to rally and cut the deficit in half (32-21) with 6:07 left.
However, the Brown and Gold answered with a key 12-2 response that put the game away before the break. Camarda sparked the run with a transition bucket and capped it with another of her five three-pointers on the night.
The Adelphi defense swarmed the Assumption shooters for much of the evening, as the Panthers held the Greyhounds to just 36.9 percent (24-of-65) shooting from the floor and forced 27 turnovers.
Camarda led all scorers in the contest with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a 5-of-8 mark from deep. She also stuffed the stat sheet with eight rebounds and six steals.
Leonie Edringer returned to her double-double form with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Stephens and
Emily Miccile added 11 points apiece.
Katie Murphy chipped in eight points, five assists and two rebounds.
