Staten Island, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swimming and diving programs picked up wins at newcomer to Division II, the College of Staten Island in a dual meet Saturday afternoon to cap off regular season action.
The women's team got off to a hot start, earning victories in the opening 10 events and ultimately took a 137-64 decision from the Dolphins. Two top swims from newcomer
Rachel Kuenzler in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard backstroke highlighted the victory.
Also earning multiple wins for Adelphi was
Crystal Zhang, who topped the field in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly swims, while nearing teammate
Emma Brown's record in the latter. Zhang clocked in at 1:01.91 in the butterfly and was just over two minutes in the freestyle.
Points for the women came from
Skyler Nenadich on the diving board, as she came away with a score of 257.50 off the one meter board and 253.65 from the three meter.
For the men, who earned a 116-93 overall decision were led by double wins from rookie
Asher Kocalis in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle events. Two other freshman picked up wins in their respective events as
Andrew Nazareno finished the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:59.53 and
Sean Roudnitsky clocked in at 23.32 in the 50 freestyle.
Jason Rosen fell short of his best time in the 100 backstroke, but still won the event for the Brown and Gold, in a time of 57.92 seconds, defeating fellow Panther
Declan Murphy who came in second in the heat, but topped both Staten Island competitors.
The men's relay quad of Rosen,
Matthew Mazur, Nazareno and
Eian McKeon were responsible for the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay of 1:37.18 to wrap up the day of competition.
Up next, the Adelphi programs will compete at the 2019-20 Northeast-10 Conference Championships set for February 6-9, hosted by Assumption College.
