Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team climbed out of a 3-1 hole Sunday afternoon, but lost a hard-fought 4-3 contest to Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts in Easton.
In a battle for sole possession of first place in the NE10 standings, Adelphi (No. 9) and Stonehill (No. 4) entered the match in the Top 10 of the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region rankings.
Nicole Kielan and
Julia Kielan each went the distance in their respective singles matches, before winning the decisive third set to tie the match at 3-all.
In No. 2 singles,
Nicole Kielan split the first two sets (6-4, 2-6) with Cristina Solorzano Valencia, but pulled out a 7-5 victory in the final frame.
Meanwhile,
Julia Kielan won her match over Samantha Ormesher by retirement at No. 6 singles, after leading 5-3 in the third set.
It came down to the No. 3 singles match to decide a winner. Despite taking the first set,
Amanda Franstedt lost 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 1-6 to Stonehill's Alexandra Vo.
The loss ended a three-match winning streak for the Panthers, who slipped to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in NE10 play.

Frank Russo and his Adelphi squad are back in action Saturday (Oct. 5), when they meet NE10 foe Assumption College at 1 p.m. at the Adelphi Tennis Courts in Garden City, N.Y.
