Garden City, N.Y. - Keeping its opponents to a sub-.100 hitting percentage for the contest, the Adelphi University volleyball team ousted Le Moyne College in league action Saturday afternoon by a 3-0 decision.
Led by
Sara Mandreja, who notched 10 kills, the Panthers (8-2, 2-0 NE10) extended their win streak to four with the victory.
Brenna Valsted posted a team-high three service aces and returned to the setting role, accounting for 33 assists. Adelphi's strongest offensive set was in the second, where it recorded 15 kills on a .355 team hitting percentage.
A service error from the Dolphins (6-6, 0-1 NE10) -- one of eight for the match -- sparked a run for the home team in the opening set, which saw them ahead by six at 16-10. Mandreja collected back-to-back kills down the stretch and the Panthers closed the door on the set with a slam from
Victoria Cast.
With Mandreja at the line, the hosts scored five unanswered, forcing a Le Moyne timeout. A few points later, the Dolphins staged a comeback, scoring seven straight to come within one. A 9-2 run in favor of the home team allowed them to close out the set to move to 2-0 in the match.
Momentum swung in favor of the visitors in the third set, but the teams experienced seven ties up until 24-24. A solo block by Rachel Ten Doeschate, one of her two for the contest accompanied by three kills, allowed the Panthers to get to match point for the second time in the set. It was McKenzie who recorded the final kill of the NE10 match-up to send the home team to an 8-2 record in 2019.
A quick turnaround, Adelphi is back in non-conference action on Monday, Sept. 30 in a 4:30 p.m. meeting with Daemen College at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
