Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team is off to a 4-0 start to league play, after a 5-0 win over University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference match Wednesday afternoon at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.
The Panthers (4-1, 4-0 NE10) swept through doubles in convincing fashion, en route to earning the team doubles point. AU lost only a combined three games between all three doubles victories.
Barbie Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan earned a 6-1 win against UNH's Stephanie Gonzalez and Katherine MacPhail at No. 1 doubles.
Amanda Franstedt and
Nicole Stay shut out Lilia Rodriguez and Kacie Banks, 6-0, in the No. 2 flight.
Julia Kielan and
Lea Baschanow were 6-2 victors over Nicole Calabrese and Alexa Orlando in third doubles.
AU's impressive play carried over into singles, where the Panthers had three of their four wins come in straight sets.
Quagliardi defeated Gonzalez in top singles, 6-2, 6-3. Kielan needed the minimum number of sets to beat Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 2 flight. Stay dropped only three games in a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Orlando in fourth singles.
After splitting the first two sets (6-3, 3-6) with Banks, Franstedt won the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5, at No. 3 singles.

Frank Russo and his Adelphi squad are back in action Saturday (Sept. 28), when they meet NE10 opponent Bentley University at noon at the Rieger Tennis Courts on the campus of Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
