Women's Soccer Overwhelms Saint Anselm, 4-1

Manchester, N.H. - Four different players tallied goals for the Panthers Saturday, as the Adelphi University women's soccer team defeated Saint Anselm College, 4-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Melucci Field in Manchester.

The win improved the Panthers to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in NE10 play. It was AU's first road victory of 2019. Meanwhile, the Hawks were handed their first defeat of the year, falling to 3-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 against league opposition.

Adelphi opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when Erica Bleimeyer converted on a penalty kick. After a giveaway by Saint Anselm deep in its own half, Kerianne Scorce was fouled inside the 18-yard box by Hawks' junior keeper Payton Wildrick to set the stage for a penalty-kick opportunity.

The Panthers would double their lead before the half. Hailey Franco tallied her second goal in as many games for AU, when she put back a Maialen Herreros rebound in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Adelphi struck for two goals in the first 10 minutes of the period to put the game out of reach. Scorce and Alexsis Weiser found the back of the net just 2:09 apart.

Scorce headed a Sabrina Blaskovic corner kick inside the right post, while Weiser ran onto a long ball from Jessica Petry and fired a shot off Wildrick's hands for the goal.

The Panthers doubled up the Hawks in shots (20-10) and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. Scorce, Weiser and Herreros led all players with a game-high-tying four shots apiece.

AU sophomore starting keeper Krista Aliscio made one save in 69:28 of work. Wildrick turned aside four shots for Saint Anselm.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers are back at it Tuesday (Sept. 24), when they host Bentley University in an NE10 showdown at 3 p.m. at Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y.
