Women's Soccer Upsets No. 8 SNHU in 2019 NE10 Opener, 4-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The tandem of Alexsis Weiser and Kerianne Scorce teamed up for two first-half goals Saturday to help propel the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 4-0 blanking of No. 8 Southern New Hampshire University in its 2019 Northeast-10 Conference opener at Motamed Field in Garden City.

The Panthers (2-1, 1-0 NE10) dominated from the opening whistle and outshot the Penmen (2-1, 0-1 NE10) by an overwhelming 3-to-1 margin (18-6) in the match.

In the first half, Adelphi spent much of its time in the opposition's half and limited SNHU to just one shot on goal -- the Penmen's only shot on target of the afternoon -- in the process.

The chances were aplenty for the hosts in the first 45 minutes and the Panthers capitalized on two of them.

The first came on the opening shot of the game. Just 3:37 into the match, Scorce raced to the end line and sent a cross to the far post that Weiser settled and fired into an open net, staking AU to an early 1-0 lead.

In the 31st minute, it was the team of Scorce and Weiser again. This time, Scorce took advantage of a takeaway in SNHU's own half and dribbled past a defender, before finding Weiser at the back post for a header to make it a 2-0 game.

Adelphi took a comfortable 2-0 advantage into the break and continued to control the pace of play in the latter half. The Panthers outshot the Penmen 12-2 in the final 45 minutes.

Early on in the period, AU got some extra insurance. In the 52nd minute, Tori Flaherty played a stunning long ball from the right flank to the feet of Erica Bleimeyer, who one-touched a shot past SNHU sophomore keeper Hannah Rose.to put it away.

Junior forward Jacqueline DIffley also added her first goal of the season -- her first tally since 2017 -- in the waning seconds to cap off the scoring for the Panthers.

AU sophomore keeper Krista Aliscio picked up her second-straight shutout at home, making one save. Rose finished with six saves for the Penmen.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad are back at it Wednesday (Sept. 18), when they meet NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
