#7 Baseball Splits Opening Games With Le Moyne

Syracuse, N.Y.- The Adelphi University baseball teams' undefeated streak was snapped by Le Moyne College on Thursday, as the Panthers split the opening double header, 0-1 and 7-3.

Game one started off scoreless through two innings, before the Dolphins put its first and only run on the board in the third, off an RBI single.

Jonathan Iadevaia and Michael Cattani led the Panthers in the opener, each batting 2-for-4, while Thomas Colombo added one hit to the board.

Ed Baram started on the mound for Adelphi (33-6-1, 21-2-1 NE10), before being relieved by Max Steele. The Dolphins were unable to score for the remainder of the contest, however Adelphi's bats could not out swing Le Moyne's (22-22, 13-10 NE10) pitching.

The Panthers came out in game two with vengeance, ousting the Dolphins 7-3 in the latter half of Thursday's double header. Cattani and Brett Malm went a combined 8-for-8, each roping four hits and a home run. Lucas Terwilliger went 3-for-4, while Thomas Colombo added two hits on his four at bats.

In the top of the first, singles from Malm and Colombo got things started for Cattani to drive in Adelphi's first run of the second game with an RBI single. Four innings later, Malm crossed home plate off Colombo's second single of the day.

Over the next two frames, Adelphi tacked on four more runs, courtesy of three consecutive home runs from Cattani, Terwilliger and Malm, making the scoreboard read 6-1. The final run for the Panthers came in as Cattani's infield fly plated Malm once again.

In its final attempts with the bat, Le Moyne was able to add two more runs on an RBI single and a wild pitch, but was unable to catch Adelphi's lead.

Josh Rovner secured his fifth win of the season, going five innings on the hill for Adelphi. Tom Ambrosino clinched his 13th save of the season, as the junior now is tied to lead all of Division II with the stat. He also ties the program's single season record, set by Dillon McNamara in 2013.

Both teams will face off again tomorrow in a single game to conclude the series, and the regular season. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y. on the campus of Onondaga Community College.
