Syracuse, N.Y. - The No. 7 Adelphi University baseball team ended the regular season on a high note, defeating Le Moyne College 6-3 on Friday evening in the rubber game of a three-game series.
The Southwest Divisional champions saw seven batters in the hit column, and tallied six RBIs over the course of nine innings, before Tom Ambrosino sealed the deal and made his own history in the process.
Ambrosino notched his 14th save of 2019, as the junior currently leads all of Division II in saves this season. He is also now at the top of the Adelphi record books, logging 14 single-season saves to beat out Dillon McNamara's ('13) previous single-season record of 13.
Daniel Taggart earned his fifth win of the season, pitching a total of six innings, and striking out four batters
The Panthers (34-6-1, 22-2-1 NE10) put their first two runs on the board with two outs in the second, following four consecutive walks and a hit batter to plate two runs for the visitors.
Despite the Dolphins tying the score across the third and fourth innings, the Panthers took back their lead with a three-run fifth inning. Singles from Lawrence Cicileo and Thomas Colombo started the trend for Lucas Terwilliger to score Adelphi's third run off the first RBI single.
Two batters later, Jordan Milo's triple to right center scored Terwilliger and Colombo, giving the Panthers a 5-2 edge over Le Moyne.
In the next inning, the Brown and Gold tacked on another run courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Cicileo's bat to score Brett Malm, who got on base previously off a double.
Le Moyne (22-23, 13-11 NE10) added one more to the board in the seventh, and brought the tying run to the plate against Ambrosino in the ninth, but ultimately could not come all the way back.
The Brown and Gold will kick off the Northeast-10 playoffs at home, as they host the play-in game on Tuesday on William J. Bonomo Field against an opponent to be announced.
