Oceanside, N.Y. - Despite two dramatic wins for Sabin Adrian Savleuc and
Luke Attride-Stirling, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was edged by Stonehill College on Tuesday afternoon at the Point Set Indoor Racquet Club, 4-3.
The Panthers' (2-8, 2-4 NE10) top two singles players each won third-set tiebreaks, but it was a tight two-set win for Stonehill's Aaron Diamond over
David Leader at No.6 singles that eventually decided the match, 7-5, 7-6(4).
Adelphi claimed the early lead behind the doubles point, winning at the second and third spots, but trailed 3-1 in the match after the Skyhawks (10-6, 2-3 NE10) won straight-set matches at No.3, No.5 and No.4 singles in that order.
Attride-Stirling kept the Panthers alive with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2) win at No.2, but the win at No.6 was the deciding one for the Purple and White.
Adelphi next visits visits Assumption College on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference action.
