#23 Baseball Streaks to Seventh Straight with 16-2 Win at Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. - Another strong offensive showing extended the Adelphi University baseball team's winning streak to seven games on Tuesday afternoon.

Adelphi pounded out 16 runs on 18 hits, its fifth time scoring 10 runs or more in the last six games, to defeat the University of Bridgeport, 16-2.

Brett Malm tallied a career-high in hits, going 5-for-7 at the plate for Adelphi (21-5), additionally driving in two RBIs as well. Tyler Becker followed, going 4-for-5, while Lawrence Cicileo and Brandon Morse combined for five hits, with Cicileo tallying four RBIs.

Nicholas Maricich clinched his second victory on the mound in a Panther uniform, hurling 2.0 innings and fanning two batters. Josh Rovner went 4.0 innings to start the game, striking out three batters before Mark Novello came out of the bullpen, knocking out four batters as well.

Despite Bridgeport (11-19) gaining a 1-0 edge in the first inning, the Panthers took the lead, 4-1 in the third, and continued to score at least one run across the remaining frames.

A single from Malm, followed by two walked batters allowed a sacrifice fly off Cicileo's bat to bring Malm home for the Panthers' first run of the contest. A walked-in run with Olson at the plate put two on the board for Adelphi, followed by a two-run single from Jack Ryan that ended the inning.

Across the next three innings, the Brown and Gold went up four more runs, first on a double credited to Malm in the fourth, followed by an RBI single from Morse and Olson stealing home in the next inning. Jonathan Iadevaia tallied an RBI in the next frame, making the score 8-1 at the end of six.

In the seventh, the Panthers increased their lead 12-1 on back-to-back singles from Becker and Cicileo, adding three more runs to the board. Two batters later, Iadevaia gave himself up to score the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The identical duo of Becker and Cicileo extended the Panthers' lead once again off a single and a triple for the board to read 15-1 in the eighth. Adelphi's final run was credited to Malm on his fifth hit and second RBI of the contest for the visitors' 16th run.

The Brown and Gold will return to William J. Bonomo Field on Wednesday for a Northeast-10 contest against Southern Connecticut State University. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
