Softball Downed Twice at #16 SNHU, 2-1 and 10-1

Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University softball team suffered a sweep at the hands of a Northeast-10 Conference opponent for the first time this season on Sunday.

In a matchup of the first-place teams on either side of the NE10, the Panthers, the Southwest Division leaders, were bested by the Northeast Division's first-place Penmen, 2-1 in eight innings and 10-1 in five.

Adelphi (16-15, 9-4 NE10) pushed a run across home plate first in both games, but was unable to cool off the red-hot Penmen, who came into the contest ranked No.16 nationally and winners of 17 straight.

SNHU (27-4, 12-0) tied game one in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to a leadoff walk and ensuing RBI double by Jordan Wade, before handing Adelphi its second straight walk-off loss in extras.

Three walks against Ally Muller did Adelphi in for the bottom of the eighth, an inning in which the Panthers had two hours with a runner at first, before freshman Emily Carbonneau stroked a single to left field to drive in the game-winner.

In game two, the Penmen first tied the game in the bottom of the first, before exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the third, beginning with a two-run home run by Emily Critch and ending with a grand slam by Shay Sauvageau.

The home team added two more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the run rule.

Adelphi returns to action at home on Tuesday, hosting Southern Connecticut State in doubleheader NE10 action at 2 p.m.

Tuesday is also Adelphi Athletics' 'Pride at the Park' event in support of the You Can Play project, with Adelphi pride t-shirts and buttons available to fans as a giveaway while supplies last.
