Baseball Secures Perfect Weekend After Saint Michael's Sweep

Colchester, Vt. - The Adelphi University baseball team closed out its road swing at Saint Michael's College in a winning a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, 12-6, and 10-5.

In game one, Adelphi (20-5, 10-1 NE10) was led by Jonathan Iadevaia and Tyler Becker, who recorded three hits each, with Becker tallying three RBIs. Kevin Krippel added two hits, while Brett Malm and Thoms Colombo each tallied one hit.

The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring off three consecutive RBI singles against Michael Demarest, before a homer to right field from Saint Michael's' Trevor Allen made it 4-0 after four

With Saint Michael's (5-15, 2-9 NE10) leading by the same margin after six, the Panthers took off on a seven-run rally in the seventh inning. It began with an RBI single off Malm's bat to score Iadevaia, and base hits from Colombo and Becker scored the next three runs for Adelphi before the tying run was scored on a wild pitch.

The final runs of the inning were scored on a sacrifice fly in thanks to Michael Cattani, and a two-run single credited to Krippel.

The Purple Knights attempted to chase the Adelphi lead, putting two more on the board in the eighth, however, a five-run ninth for the Panthers extended it once again to put the opener away.

The late push began with a run scored off multiple fielding errors from the hosts, and a passed ball on the catcher for the board to read 9-6. Another error and an RBI single from Becker tallied the last three runs of the contest for the Brown and Gold.

In game two, Malm was just shy of a perfect game at the plate, batting 4-for-5 in game two, and adding three RBIs. Colombo finished with two hits, while Iadevaia, Cattani Lawrence Cicileo and Jordan Milo posted one hit each.

Adelphi was the first to get on the board in game two, going up 1-0 in the first inning. The Panthers later increased their lead 6-0 following another five-run inning, beginning with base hits from Colombo and Cicileo. The two later scored off a passed ball before Iadevaia and Malm roped two-run base hits for the six-run edge.

The Purple and Gray scored its first run in its half of the inning with an RBI double, before the Panthers added four more runs to the board. Across the fifth and seventh innings, a single and a double from Malm added two more run to Adelphi's side, and the third baseman later crossed the dish himself due to a wild pitch.

In its final attempt with the sticks to cut the Panthers' lead, Saint Michael's scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth before eventually succumbing to defeat. A hit batter caused the first run of the inning, followed by back-to-back singles for the final three runs.

The Brown and Gold will next hit the road once again for a non-conference matchup against the University of Bridgeport. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
