Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#3 Panthers Top #19 Merrimack in NE10 Action, 15-10

Garden City, N.Y. - With only a two-goal lead at halftime, no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse erupted with 10 goals in the second half en route to a 15-10 victory over no. 19 Merrimack College Saturday afternoon on their home turf to remain unbeaten in league play.

Posting a team-leading seven points was Alison Johnson, who tallied seven assists, helping Allison Stackpole match her career-best four goals three times. Lena Riportella was responsible for a hat trick as three others scored multi-goal games. In goal for Adelphi, Emma Lemanski picked up the win with five saves.

The first goal for Adelphi (10-1, 6-0 NE10) came less than two minutes into the game from Kole Pollock. Almost ten minutes expired before the home team was able to score again, due to several big stops in goal for Lauren Trepany and untimely turnovers. Christina Ferrara and Stackpole both received passes from Johnson to give the home team a three-goal advantage before Merrimack got on the board. Two converted free position shots (including one man down tally) and a third goal for the Warriors made it an even game with under 10 minutes to play in the first half.

It was Chelsea Abreu who regained the lead and Stackpole who made it a two-goal contest heading into the break.

The home team came out in the second half and went on a five-goal spree to push out to a comfortable lead. However, two consecutive man-up possessions turned into scores for Merrimack who were slowly chipping away at the Panther lead. Adelphi responded with three of the next five goals, but it was the Warriors who staged a late comeback near the four-minute mark.

Haley Bartlett notched her first, second and third goals in a matter of two minutes to come within three of the hosts. Pat McCabe called a timeout after the third of Barlett's and with a Ferrara draw control win, she was able to give Adelphi another chance on offense. This time it was Pollock who found Christina McCabe to extend the lead to four with just about 90 seconds left in regulation. Stackpole's fourth and final tally of the afternoon was a cross in front of the goal which McCabe assisted on to send the Panthers to 7-0 overall in Northeast-10 conference play.

Adelphi is scheduled to host Bentley University on Wednesday, April 10. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
