Garden City, N.Y. - With 17 caused turnovers and four tallies from
Lena Riportella, the no. 2 Adelphi women's lacrosse team picked up their third consecutive win in a 11-6 victory over no. 19 Bentley University.
The Panthers (11-1, 8-0) used a second half scoring spree to eventually pull away from their opponents, who trailed by one with 15 minutes to play in the second half. The Falcons (8-2, 6-2 NE10) trailed by just three goals at the half and cut into the deficit, outscoring the home team 3-1 to open the second frame.
Goals from
Chelsea Abreu and Riportella got things going for the hosts after they found themselves down on a game-opening strike from the Falcons. Bentley was able to even the contest at two apiece before the Panthers rattled off three straight, courtesy of
Kole Pollock,
Alison Johnson and
Christina McCabe.
The visitors scored three right out of halftime, as all three goal scorers converted on free position shots after aggressive play from Adelphi's defense. In all, the Panthers held the advantage with 17 caused turnovers to Bentley's nine, and saw a successful night in the clear game, compared to their opponents who finished 15-24.
Adelphi managed to close the game with a 4-0 run, sparked by Johnson's tally at 10:22 which was followed by three goals over the next six minutes.
Bentley goalie Eliza Bresler made nine saves as the visiting Falcons held Adelphi under its season average of 14 goals per game.
The women's program will return to their home field and celebrate their senior class prior to their NE10 meeting with Stonehill College on Saturday, April 13. Senior day festivities will begin at approximately 11:40 a.m., before opening draw at noon.
