Manchester, N.H. - Another offensive explosion sealed two more wins for the for the Adelphi University baseball team on Saturday afternoon, as the PAnthers swept Saint Anselm 13-1 and 9-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader.
Game one saw nine batters in the hit column for Adelphi (18-5, 8-1 NE10), with Thomas Colombo leading the Panthers going 3-for-4 and two RBIs.
Brandon Morse, Tyler Becker, Brandon Warick and Kyle Olson added two hits each, while Brett Malm, Lawrence Cicileo, Ross Maertz and Lucas Terwilliger added one each.
Ed Baram started on the bump for Adelphi, throwing a total of eight innings and striking out five batters before being relieved by Seth Sypniak.
The Panthers took a 6-0 lead over the hosts in the fourth inning, batting through the entire lineup. Rookie Olson went deep for the second straight game to record his second home run of the season, slamming a ball to right field for Adelphi's first two runs of the contest. Immediately after, two RBI singles off Morse's and Cicileo's bats put four on the board for the Panthers.
In the next at bat, a two-run single from Colombo gave Adelphi the six-run edge going into the bottom half of the inning. The Panthers increased their lead by two more runs in the seventh, in thanks to a two-run single from Malm to drive home a walked Becker and Morse.
In the next inning, the visitors went on a five-run rally to seal game one's victory, beginning with two singles from Colombo and Terwilliger. Colombo later scored the first of the five-run inning on a wild pitch, making the score 9-1.
With a runner on third, Warick gave himself up on a sacrifice fly to bring Terwilliger home before Ross Maertz's pinch-hit double to right center caused an error on the outfielder to score Becker and Olson. Another error on the shortstop brought Maertz around for the final run of the inning.
The Hawks scored their lone run of the contest in the fifth, following an error that eventually scored Collins from second.
In the latter half of Saturday's doubleheader, Nicolas Luc hurled the ball well for Adelphi, pitching a total of six innings in game two's 9-0 shutout victory. Terwilliger led the way on offense in Saturday's second game, batting 3-for-4 and tallying two RBIs after nine innings.
The Panthers picked up a 5-0 lead in the second inning, starting with base hits from Becker and Terwilliger, who later scored the first two runs off a double from the bat of Olson. In the next at bat, Olson crossed home plate courtesy of an RBI double from Michael Cattani, and the final two runs of the inning were scored off a sacrifice fly from Malm, and an RBI double off of Cicileo's bat.
Sitting with a 5-0 lead, the Brown and Gold extended it by four across the next two innings. A walked in run and another sacrifice fly from Malm put the Panthers up by seven, and a two run double from Terwilliger capped the score at nine.
Luc pitched a complete game, going the total seven innings to clinch his second victory of the season on the mound.
The Panthers will continue their road swing tomorrow, as they travel to Saint Michael's College for a doubleheader with the Purple Knights. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
