Garden City, N.Y.- In its return to William J. Bonomo Field, the newly ranked No. 7 Adelphi University baseball team defeated divisional foe, Pace University, 5-2 in the series finale. The win secured the Panthers top spot in the Southwest Division, crowning Adelphi the Regular Season Champions.
Jack Ryan batted a perfect game, going 2-for-2 with one RBI, while six others added one hit each to the board.
Nick Palmerini struck out three batters across four innings before being relieved by Kieran McLaughlin, who was dealt win. Seth Sypniak recorded his first save of the season as the Brown and Gold's closer.
Both teams were silent through the first three frames, until the Panthers snatched the lead in the fourth, going up 4-0 on the Setters. A Michael Cattani single got things started for Adelphi (32-5-1, 19-1-1 NE10), and a wild pitch advanced him and Thomas Colombo to second and third base. The pair later scored following a free pass for Olson, and an error on the Pace catcher to go up 2-0.
Olson eventually crossed home plate off an RBI single courtesy of Ryan to centerfield. The Panthers final run of the inning was scored off an RBI double from Jordan Milo for the four-run edge over the visiting team.
A two-run double brought Pace (27-13, 13-9 NE10) within two in the sixth inning, however the Setters were never able to catch Adelphi's lead.
Olson scored the final run of the contest after a dropped infield fly allowed the freshman to cross home plate for the fifth run.
The Brown and Gold will conclude the regular season in a three-game series at Le Moyne College beginning on May 2. The Panthers will face off with the Dolphins on Thursday in a single-game at 3:30 p.m.Â
