#19 Baseball Sweeps Saint Rose, Seniors Lead Charge in 7-4 Series Finale

Garden City, N.Y. - The veterans of the Adelphi University baseball team led the way in a 7-4 victory over the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon.

After being honored in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day, Michael Cattani, Lucas Terwilliger, Jonathan Iadevaia and Thomas Colombo combined for eight hits, with Cattani leading the group with three.

The senior class drove in four of Adelphi's seven runs in the win, which secured a sweep in the Northeast-10 Conference divisional series and extended the team's winning streak to 13 games.

Both teams remained silent through the first inning before the Panthers (27-5, 15-1 NE10) put up their first three runs in the bottom of the second. Terwilliger got things started for the hosts, nailing a double down the left field line and later scoring in the next at bat in thanks to an RBI single from Cattani. A single from another senior in Kevin Krippel and a double off rookie Tim Feliz's bat tacked on the next two runs for the Panthers, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage after two.

Saint Rose (10-20, 5-12 NE10) secured its first run on a free pass given to John Montesanti of the Golden Knights. Two batters later, an RBI single from Jack McDonald put the visitors within one after three innings.

The Panthers responded in the fourth with a four-run inning to go up 7-2 on the Golden Knights. Senior Jordan Milo led the way with a double to left field, followed by singles from Feliz and Iadevaia which later helped bring the second baseman home.

Back-to-back RBIs from Terwilliger and Cattani continued the four-run push, putting seven on the board for Adelphi.

The Golden Knights cut the deficit to three, beginning with a solo homer in the seventh and an RBI single in the eighth, but Tom Ambrosino slammed the door in the ninth with a comebacker and two punchouts to secure his ninth save of the season.

Josh Rovner secured his third win of the season, pitching a total of five innings and fanning five batters despite five walks. Mark Novello, Michael Demarest and Seth Sypniak came out of the bullpen in relief before Ambrosino finished things off.

The Brown and Gold will travel to American international College on Monday in a rescheduled contest in Springfield, Mass. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

As the top two teams in the Southwest Division, the winner of Monday's contest will serve as a potential postseason tiebreaker between the two teams after they split a doubleheader on March 30.
